Our History

In February 2020, Stratum Contracting & Construction Management was born in Jacksonville, FL, when founder James Smithson transitioned from a corporate construction career to follow his passion. With more than 90 years of collective experience, including 27+ years from James himself, our team is deeply committed to excellence.

Stratum was born not only to create remarkable projects but also to give back to veteran service organizations. As a service-disabled Marine Corps Officer and veteran, James's mission is to serve the community and those who have served our nation.

We aspire to be known for delivering the highest quality and value in every project we undertake. Our commitment to transparency fosters long-term relationships with our clients, who often return to us or refer us to others based on our exceptional execution and exemplary performance.
